Belgium is Sweden’s eighth largest export market. The Swedish shipping company SOL is about to expand its departure frequency between the Port of Gothenburg and the Belgian port of Zeebrugge. The change will offer greater scope for Swedish import and export companies to ship freight to and from Belgium.
During 2013, ro-ro traffic through the Port of Gothenburg rose for the first time in three years. On the other hand, the number of containers shipped through the port fell by five per cent. A new set of figures for freight volumes for 2013 has just been released.
Despite turmoil in the world economy, container trade at the Port of Gothenburg was up four per cent during the third quarter. Rail transport and oil are increasing whilst ro-ro traffic and cars continue to fall.
