The Port of Gothenburg fairway deepening project is underway

Monday became an important milestone in the history of the Port of Gothenburg as the ground was broken for the Skandia Gateway project. The quay reinforcement and fairway deepening project, which has been on the port's planning table for over ten years, means that the port further strengthens the possibilities to serve Swedish export and import industries.

Gothenburg named Sweden's top logistics location

The Gothenburg region tops the list in Swedish industry magazine Intelligent Logistics' annual ranking of Sweden's best logistics locations. As Sweden's largest freight hub, the Port of Gothenburg plays a crucial role in the award, which has been presented since 2001. It is the 23rd time that the Gothenburg region has topped the list.

All time high container throughput in the Port of Gothenburg

Despite geopolitical unrest and economic slowdown with inflation and rising interest rates, the volumes increased in most cargo segments in the Port of Gothenburg in 2023. The container segment stands out the most, with 2023 marking the best year in the port's 403-year history. This is according to the cargo volume summary for 2023 provided by the Gothenburg Port Authority.

New Train Shuttle between Piteå and the Port of Gothenburg

Träfraktkontoret and its subsidiary TFK Logistics have introduced a new train shuttle between Piteå and the Port of Gothenburg. The service operates twice per week, transporting containers and tank containers, with trailer wagons to be introduced in March.

EU green lights deepening of the fairway in the Port of Gothenburg

With preliminary studies, risk analyses, simulations, environmental permits and other types of preparatory work already completed, the final obstacle has now been overcome to kick-start the Skandia Gateway project. This is via approval from the EU Commission, which confirms that state funding for a Port of Gothenburg fairway deepening does not constitute state aid.

New quay opens up new possibilities in the Port of Gothenburg Energy Port

In 2024, a highly extensive and technologically advanced infrastructure project will commence in the Port of Gothenburg Energy Port, where a 300-meter-long quay will be completely rebuilt to get a complete 2.0 upgrade. Now, the Swedish construction company Peab has been contracted for the first phase of the job.

Second Charging Station for Electric Trucks Operational in the Port of Gothenburg

The charging infrastructure for heavy trucks continues to develop in the Port of Gothenburg. Through a collaboration between Göteborg Energi and the Gothenburg Port Authority, additional charging facilities for heavy traffic are now available in the port. Four charging spots with up to 350 kW capacity are now operational at Port Entry.

Strong export industry leads to increasing container volumes in the Port of Gothenburg

The Swedish purchasing power remains low in the wake of economic downturn, resulting in reduced container imports. However, overall container handling in the Port of Gothenburg is increasing as the Swedish export industry continues to thrive, with the forestry sector leading the way. This is according to the Port of Gothenburg's volume report for the third quarter of 2023.

British Aircraft Carrier moored at the Port of Gothenburg

At around 11 o'clock local time on Friday morning, the British aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth arrived according to plan in the Port of Gothenburg. “This is one of the largest warships we have received in the port, and it has required a lot of planning up until the last minute," says Erik Waller, Deputy Harbor Master at the Gothenburg Port Authority.
