Container traffic at the Port of Gothenburg on the rise – despite uncertain market situation

The Swedish container market had a slight downturn during the first half of 2019 with a one per cent fall, but the Port of Gothenburg is reporting a steady rise in both market share and volume. Between January and September this year, the figure stood at four per cent, due largely to continued influx of hinterland rail volumes at the port.

Gothenburg named as the best logistics location in Sweden

For the 19th year in succession, Gothenburg has been named as the best logistics location in Sweden by the trade journal Intelligent Logistik. With a nationwide rail shuttle network and growing container volumes, the Port of Gothenburg is described as being a pivotal factor in the emergence of the region as a logistics hub.

Volumes have remained stable through the Covid-19 pandeminc at the Port of Gothenburg.

Port of Gothenburg freight volumes signify stability and revival

Freight volumes at the Port of Gothenburg have remained stable, despite the ongoing effect the Covid-19 pandemic is having on world trade. Container volumes remain unchanged while other segments are regaining lost ground following the downturn earlier in the year. This can be seen from the volume report for the year to September.

Higher container volumes at the Port of Gothenburg – despite Covid-19

Global logistics in 2020 was marked indelibly by the Covid-19 pandemic, resulting in considerable fluctuations in demand for industrial products and transport. At the Port of Gothenburg, container volumes for the year showed no sign of being affected by Covid-19. On the contrary, volumes have increased.

Cross-industry collaboration to make the Port of Gothenburg Europe's first green e-fuels hub

Gothenburg Port Authority is collaborating with Stena Line, DFDS, Ørsted and Liquid Wind to establish Europe’s first electromethanol (e-fuels) hub. With the intent to launch in 2025, the venture is a tangible step towards a carbon neutral shipping industry.

Container volumes rise at Scandinavia’s largest port

Port of Gothenburg freight volumes are continuing to rise in several segments. During the first half of 2020, containerised units rose by 4% and energy products by 22%. This despite the current Covid-19 pandemic, and while virtually all larger ports in Europe and the world show negative results.

Unique charging and hydrogen filling station to be built in the Port of Gothenburg

A set of measures to speed up the transition to fossil-free transport, is about to be put into action at the Port of Gothenburg. The initial step: the first open-access facility in the Nordic region for electric charging and hydrogen gas for heavy goods vehicles, will become operational in 2022.
