Swedish container transport is increasingly concentrated to the Nordic region's largest port. The Port of Gothenburg's market share of container freight to or from Swedish ports increased by three percentage points in 2021. The port also grew in relation to the largest ports in Europe.
A long-awaited, unique direct connection between the port of Gothenburg and the United States starting later this March. The US is Sweden's largest export market outside Europe, and the weekly direct service will improve conditions for further growth in trade between the countries.
Green Cargo has introduced a new freight shuttle between the Port of Gothenburg and Rosersberg, north of Stockholm, which strengthens the conditions for further growth. Departing six times a week, the shuttle transports paper products and other goods from Rosersberg to the Port of Gothenburg, for onward transit to France and the United Kingdom.

In a concerted effort to incentivise haulage companies to increase the proportion of emission-free trucks more rapidly, two terminal operators at the Port of Gothenburg join forces as part of a new project named “Green Priority”. The number of rail departures between the Port of Gothenburg and Piteå is being increased from one a week to two. The shuttle service offers a significant reduction in carbon emissions and cuts the transport time by almost a week.
