A new direct deep sea service to the Far East for Swedish import and export industry has been announced. The new service will include a weekly call to the Port of Gothenburg, commencing on April 18.
Major port deal: Late yesterday afternoon, notice of approval was received from the EU Commission for the acquisition of Älvsborg Ro/Ro AB – the Ro-Ro Terminal at the Port of Gothenburg – by DFDS and C.Ro Ports. The transfer is planned for the beginning of May.
The arrival of the German cruise ship Aidacara in Gothenburg today will mark the start of the 2012 cruise season. The vessel is one of 62 vessels due to visit Gothenburg this year, which is a new record.

The two shipping companies are currently switching to fuel with a maximum of 0.1 per cent sulphur when they operate in the port area. The Port of Gothenburg now acquired a new service between Gothenburg and Killingholme in the UK. The service is being operated by the recently established shipping company North Sea Roro.
This week the Port of Gothenburg will set up two charging posts for electric cars outside the head office at Amerikaskjulet. All visitors to Amerikaskjulet can charge their electric cars at no cost. Staff at the Port of Gothenburg will also have an electric car at their disposal that can be used for work-related transport.
The most powerful wind turbine in Sweden is currently being built at Risholmen at the entrance to the Port of Gothenburg. The foundation has been laid and the components are due to arrive in the Port of Gothenburg on Sunday. The new wind turbine will be capable of producing 15 million kWh each year, five times more than a normal wind turbine.
Late on Friday evening it was announced that the Port of Gothenburg was one of the winners in the prestigious Energy Globe Awards 2011 for its work on shoreside power connection for vessels at berth. The award, EUR 10,000 and a 17 kg bronze statue, was presented at a gala in Austria.

One of the almost 1,000 entries from 105 countries was the Port of Gothenburg, nominated for its work on shoreside power connection of vessels at berth.
